Holiday celebrations come with joy and for some people stress, especially when you’re the one in charge of the food. That’s why having a potluck can be the way to go if you want to still have an intimate gathering and a variety of food on the table. This week, don’t miss out on a 1950’s potluck lunch hosted by the Southampton Historical Museum in conjunction with the Rogers Memorial Library at noon on Thursday, Dec. 6.
Think back to the days when the table included Tuna Noodle, Green Bean Casserole, Ambrosia and Waldorf Salad. There will also be a serving of mushroom soup, rolls, punch and dessert. Anyone attending is welcome to bring a favorite casserole, salad or other side dish with the 1950’s in mind to share.
This potluck lunch is an introductory welcome the Museum’s holiday exhibit – A 1950’s Christmas in Southampton and its holiday gift shop. Reservations are required by calling the Museum at 631-283-2494.
The 1950’s holiday exhibit continues to run through Jan.5, 2013. It provides a look back in time and displays how families during those days celebrated the holiday season. You can also see what types of toys and gifts were given back in those days. The exhibit is a collection of photographs from several Southampton families and there is also a recreation of a 1950s living room with a tree.
Enjoy a potluck lunch and take a step back to see how much has changed for the holiday season since the 1950s.
