To celebrate Earth Day, the Science Museum of Long Island is sponsoring a tree-planting event at Leeds Pond Preserve, which is the home of the museum. On April 20th from noon until 3PM, you can come out and plant a tree to help the woodlands recover from Superstorm Sandy to better the environment.
The event is free and you can enjoy touring the grounds and meet some of the animal friends that live at the museum. It will be a fun afternoon for kids and adults of all ages and it will allow you to celebrate Earth Day in a wonderful way.
Leeds Pond Preserve is a 35-acre property that overlooks Manhasset Bay. The Victorian Mansion on the property serves as a home from the Science Museum of Long Island. Nature trails wind through a wooded valley that is home to beautiful tulip and oak trees, and a stream flows through the wetland into the centerpiece of the property, Leeds Pond.
The Preserve and the Science Museum of Long Island is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to teaching children about science through a variety of different offerings and programs. Programs and events are offered all year long. For more information, visit http://smli.org/.
