Peconic Landing’s Darryl Volinski wins prestigious Employee of Distinction award from LeadingAge New York
GREENPORT, N.Y. (September 25, 2012) – Darryl Volinski, Director of Environmental Services at Peconic Landing, has received a Long Term Care Employee of Distinction Award in the 12th annual competition hosted by Leading Age New York. These awards recognize the very best of New York’s nonprofit senior living and service providers and the people who contribute their time, energy and professionalism to the field of aging.
Representatives from the legislature, state regulatory agencies, advocacy agencies and other organizations served on the Employee of Distinction Awards Committee to review the nominations and select winners from the state’s eight regions. The New York State Legislature also recognized the extraordinary dedication of each of the award winners with the presentation of a legislative resolution.
Volinski was nominated by Robert Syron, President/CEO of Peconic Landing. “Since Darryl started here five years ago, he has embodied our core values of integrity, joy, distinction, pride, collaboration and commitment,” said Syron. “He has implemented systems and technologies that have increased staff morale, efficiency, resident satisfaction and safety.”
Specific examples of Volinski’s contributions: implementing Peconic Landing’s state-of-the-art personal response system, certifying all security personnel with New York State, personally providing CPR and first aid training to all security and nursing staff, installing video surveillance, and introducing an electronic work-order process. He also coordinated Peconic Landing’s disaster plan with the local authorities, made Peconic Landing an evacuation site for the town, and worked with DOH and Yale University on disaster planning for Peconic Landing and New York State.
Volinski is also one of the founders of Peconic Landing’s May Mile and 5K event, which has raised over $100,000 in six years for the Greenport Fire Department.
When asked to cite examples of Volinski going “above and beyond” his job requirements, Syron said, “Darryl has set such a high standard in all that he does, that it is difficult to differentiate what he always does and what constitutes ‘above and beyond.’ Residents and staff at all levels respect Darryl and know they are secure in their home and workplace.”
Volinski is active in the community, having served as an EMT and member of the Greenport Fire Department for 29 years, and as former chief and former member of the board of wardens. He is a member of the Greenport and Southold Disaster Planning Board and a past member of the Village Planning Board. He ran and coached a Police Athletic League football team that sponsored underprivileged children, was a JV football coach and is the vice chair of the Porters Football Booster Club, and also volunteers for Community Action Southold Township.
