While there are many businesses on Long Island struggling to keep their employees employed, there are those other places that are trying very hard to move forward. Peconic Landing has announced the largest expansion of its facilities, amenities and therapies in its 10-year history. The not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Greenport expects to start construction on the approximately $45 million expansion in December 2013.
The expansion is also a rather ambitious one.
The new areas will feature 16 new private skilled nursing accommodations in a “neighborhood model,” which includes a common area with country kitchen, dining area, great room and activity area. A 16-suite memory support assisted living wing for those with cognitive impairment will be set in a similar neighborhood style.
Forty-six residential apartments ranging in size from 750 to 1,100 square feet will be added, along with expanded fitness facilities, new administrative support spaces and enhancements to the community’s educational amenities, including a technologically enhanced “smart” classroom.
The independent living addition will be attached to the existing community center and have easy access to all fitness, social and cultural amenities. The pool area will be renovated to provide greater access. Exercise facilities will be significantly increased, and a separate fitness room will be created for group exercise.
A new front entrance to the healthcare center will be created along with a new lobby/reception area, training room and administrative space. Post-acute rehabilitation services will include upgraded physical and occupational therapies.
About 40-45 new jobs will be created, making Peconic Landing a major employer with almost 250 employees. Besides additional employment opportunities for growth, staff will have access to the fitness center and additional classes.
This is all great news for the North Fork area, as well as the rest of Suffolk County.
