Long Island Air Force Association Presents A Pearl Harbor Memorial ceremony
Hosted by Republic Airport and The American Air Power Museum
Event: “DROPPING OF THE ROSES” - Statue of Liberty fly over
Location: American Air Power Museum on New Highway @ Republic Airport, Farmingdale, NY
Date: Friday, December 7, 2012 Time: 10:30 AM
The 71th Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack will take place on Friday, December 7, 2012 at
10:30 AM at the American Airpower Museum. The Skytypers of New York will fly vintage WW II
aircraft from Republic Airport at 12:00 noon to drop 71 American Beauty Roses over the Statue
of Liberty at precisely 12:55 PM commemorating the exact time of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Dropping of the Roses / Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony is a tradition started in 1970 by
the late Joseph Stanley Hydrusko to honor his fallen comrades. Joe saved numerous lives at
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and was a candidate for the Congressional Medal of
Honor. Continuing with tradition, the Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony honors all Pearl Harbor
veterans including all veterans who served during past and present conflicts.
Everyone is invited to join the political leaders, veteran’s organizations, police and fire
departments attending this ceremony. After military honors, taps, and blessing of the roses,
the war birds will perform a fly-by before departing for the Statue of Liberty. During the
memorial ceremony the Massapequa HS Band will perform military music.
Please join us in honoring all those who have served and who are serving the United States of
America to preserve and defend our liberties.
