West Islip, NY 11795- On October 25, 2012, Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center received a donation from Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi. His 2nd Annual “Wing Fling” political fundraiser was held at Lily Flanagan’s in Islip. The event featured a wing-eating contest in which six contestants competed to see who could eat the most chicken wings in 3 minutes. Guests donated to their favorite contestant with all the proceeds going to a charity of the contestant’s choice.
Mr. Chad Ryan of Islip chose Our Lady of Consolation Assissi Unit at the request of his neighbor, Liz Mayott, whose mother-in-law, Eileen Mayott, was a resident who recently passed away. The Mayott’s were so grateful for the kindness and professional care of the staff, this was an opportunity to say thanks.
Legislator Cilmi’s contest raised $500 which was matched by the Islip Republican Committee for a total donation of $1,000. Cilmi said, “I’m thrilled to be able to make this donation in memory of Eileen Mayott. The love and care shown by the entire staff at Our Lady of Consolation to the Mayott family during this difficult time will never be forgotten.”
Mr. Cilmi presented the check to Hon. Angie Carpenter, Chairman of the CHS Continuing Care Division Board of Trustees, Joseph Tomaino, President & CEO of Our Lady of Consolation and Sr. Marilyn Breen, Chief Administrative Officer of Our Lady of Consolation.
