(RIVERHEAD, NY, April 23, 2012) –– The East End Arts Gallery is pleased to announce an open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried, all media art shows, Animals. Photography and poetry will be juried independently and exhibited at the Quogue Library from June 2 through June 30, 2012. All other media will be on display at the East End Arts Gallery, from June 8 through July 13, 2012. The call is open to all artists to submit work inspired by, or on the subject of, animals. The guest jurors for this show will be Richard Demato of the Richard Demato Gallery in Sag Harbor, and Harriet Sawyer, an artist represented at the Demato Gallery. East End Arts is delighted to be partnering with the Quogue Library Art Gallery for this exhibit. This will be East End Arts’ first South Fork gallery collaboration. The East End Arts’ Gallery is located at 133 East Main Street in Riverhead, New York. Animals is sponsored by Apple Honda.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened” said Anatole France. “You enter into a certain amount of madness when you marry a person with pets” said Nora Ephron. There are a variety of ways for artists to approach this subject. Original works in all media may be submitted collectively, including: painting, drawing, mixed media, video, sculpture, photography*, and poetry*; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. All entries will be received at the East End Arts Gallery. *Photography entries will be accepted on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30 from 10 AM to 4 PM. *Poetry must be received via email between May 23 and May 25. *Photography and poetry entries will be juried independently from all other media. All other media (anything other than photography and poetry) will be accepted Thursday, May 31; Friday, June 1; and Saturday, June 2 from 10 AM to 4 PM. How will guest jurors Richard Demato and Harriet Sawyer select the work? "We look for quality, originality and execution of technique – art that speaks to us and provokes thought,” comment Richard Demato and Harriet Sawyer.
The “Best in Show” winner will be one of several artists who will participate in the East End Arts Gallery’s Winners’ Show in the Fall of 2013. First, Second, Third Place, and Honorable Mentions will also be awarded.
Photography and poetry will be on exhibit at the Quogue Library, with an opening reception to be held on Saturday, June 9, from 3 PM to 5 PM. The Quogue Library is located at 90 Quogue Street in Quogue, NY. All other media, on exhibit at the East End Arts Gallery, will open with a reception on Friday, June 8, from 5 PM to 7 PM. At the receptions, guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists. These free events are open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
