A group founded by determined mothers, called One Million Moms for Gun Control, rallied in New York City on Monday in support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s recent gun control legislation, and to call for federal gun control legislation.
All across Long Island many people are concerned about the different gun control laws that were passed by Gov. Cuomo's new laws that are the strictest in the country. Regardless of where you stand upon the issue, is it hard to mess with more than 400 moms who converge into a town to protest anything.
This event, which was organized by Shannon Watts, an Indiana mother of five who founded 1MM4GC on Dec. 14, the day 20 young children and six adults were murdered in one of the nation’s most horrific mass shooting events, included a march across the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall.
In her rally cry to bring mothers together for the march, Watts said;
“Moms: We can never back down from our newfound conviction and resolution to strengthen this country’s gun regulations. We will not go back to letting the National Rifle Association and Congress and State Legislatures tell us how to keep our kids safe. As moms, we know how to do that and we know it means new and stronger gun laws. Let’s make sure that we wake up with a stronger resolve to support President Obama’s proposed legislation to strengthen our country’s gun laws. Let’s be his foot soldiers. So that in a month from now, we will be amazed again to say, “Look how much change can happen in just TWO months.”
Their efforts go well beyond the New York area as more and more people are beginning to take a stand for creating a safer place to live.
