New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to be Honored at Ben’s Olde Time New York Deli Experience
Proceeds from Annual Fundraiser to Benefit The INN
On October 15, Ben’s Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers will host its annual Olde Time New York Deli Experience fundraiser at the Greenvale location, 140 Wheatley Plaza, from 6-8 pm. This year’s honoree will be New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
A lifelong Nassau County resident — and a longtime Ben’s customer — Mr. DiNapoli made New York State history in 1972 when he was elected to the Mineola Board of Education, making him the youngest person in the state to hold elected office. He later received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Hofstra University and a Master’s degree in Management and Urban Policy from The New School University.
Prior to becoming Comptroller, Mr. DiNapoli served in the State Assembly for 20 years. He previously worked as a manager in the telecommunications industry and served as an adjunct professor. In 2007, he was elected State Comptroller and in 2010, was elected to a full four-year term. Since taking office, he has implemented reforms to eliminate fraud and waste, save taxpayers money and keep costs down. In 2009, he oversaw nearly 550 audits and identified more than $1.5 billion in savings and revenue enhancements for state and local governments.
Tickets are $54 per person, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network), a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization that addresses the issues of hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter, long-term housing and supportive services in a dignified and respectful manner for those who are seeking help.
Ben’s has been very active in working with The INN, as Ben’s Owner/Founder Ronnie Dragoon is a member of The INN’s Board of Directors. Last year’s event raised over $20,000 for The INN. In May, Ben’s catered a BBQ dinner for the Mary Brennan INN’s Volunteer Appreciation Day at its Hempstead location. Ben’s also provides the food for A Day of Thanks and Giving, which is held mid-November each year and raises over $10,000 to help support The INN’s programs.
“We are proud to honor Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, not only for his dedication as a public servant but for his loyalty as a longtime Ben’s customer,” Mr. Dragoon said. “This event will also benefit our good friends at The INN, whose staff and volunteers we have had the pleasure of serving at their wonderful facility. We ask all our customers and INN supporters to come down and enjoy our delicious food and take part in this wonderful event.”
