The New York Post recently exposed a fraudulent EMT in Nassau County. Bernard Shore, who provided critical care services, offered a reporter working undercover for the Post $400 as a bribe to take his state certification exam for him. Shore is 64 years old and is a member of the volunteer Port Washington Fire Department. He even advertised on Craigslist for a paramedic to take the exam for him, saying he couldn’t do it because of his bad back.
When the Post employee answered the ad, Shore provided him with a fake ID to get into the exam at La Guardia Community College. He also gave the employee $100, promising that the remaining $300 would be paid after the exam was complete. Along with the payment and the fake ID, he also provided the reporter with a $20 exam fee and two No. 2 pencils. Robert Kropacek, chairman of the Port Washington Fire Department, has relieved Shore of his duties. “We are aware of and stunned by the New York Post article. We are fully cooperating with any law-enforcement or administrative investigations. We are cooperating with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.”
