Hard to believe that this year is nearly complete and that 2012 will begin in a matter of days. What do you have planned for the remainder of 2011 (and for New Year’s Eve)? If you need some ideas on entertainment and dining in Long Island, we have loads of options for you.
This week, we highlight great places to help cherish the past and ways to celebrate the start of the New Year in Long Island.
Here are this week’s highlights:
- Century-old Toys: Many of today’s children’s toys are high-end gadgets. Take a step back into time by heading over to the Southampton Historical Museums and Research Center to visit its exhibit at the Rogers Mansion: “The Joys of Toys.” The exhibit runs thru Dec. 31 and features 19th and early 20th century toys made mostly of tin, cast-iron, and wood. It will also display dolls, dollhouses, and more. Admission is $4; members and children under 17 are admitted free. The exhibit is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 11 am – 4 pm.
- Theatre: The CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale is featuring “Annie” with music by Charles Strouse. The story behind the performance is about a young orphan named Annie whose primary wish is for a good family, which she ends up having at the end. This is a heart-felt performance, perfect around the holidays, to remind us to cherish the family and friends we have. The performance runs thru Jan. 15, 2012. Purchase tickets online - $22 (adults); $20 (seniors); and $16 (students). Select a performance on Wednesday or Sunday evening for a discounted price of $18 for adults; $16 for senior and students.
- Dining: If you are looking for New Year’s Eve dining festivities, the CM Performing Arts Center will also host a gala. Festivities begin at 9 pm where you can enjoy hor d’oeuvres, wine and beer. There will be cabaret performances featuring Long Island performers and a hot dinner buffet. Just before the clock strikes midnight, it will have a satellite broadcast of Times Square’s festivities for the countdown. The night will be completed with champagne toast, additional cabaret performances and dessert and coffee. Reservations are accepted at 631-218-2810 or purchase tickets online for $80 per person.
- Bowling and Music to Roll in 2012: If you are looking for some fun that will suit all ages, there’s no better place to be than 300 Long Island in Melville on New Year’s Eve. It features a 49-lane bowling concourse complete with spectacular lights and video surrounding it, a full service bar, as well as a billiard table. It will have a New Year’s Eve Matinee running from 3 pm – 6pm with a package that includes bowling, shoe rental, a pizza buffet and sparkling cider for a toast to the New Year, with prices starting at $21 per person. For later night entertainment, come by from 8:30 pm – 1 am for its New Year’s Eve Primetime session that features a package that includes bowling, shoe rental, a live DJ, a holiday themed buffet and a midnight ball drop and champagne, with prices starting at $26 per person. Reservations are recommended by calling Vanessa at 631-271-0051 or emailing vmarro@threehundred.com.
