(RIVERHEAD, NY, April 26, 2013) –– East End Arts is pleased to announce the exciting new art show at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, at the Jamesport Manor Inn (located at 370 Manor Lane in Jamesport, NY) featuring East End Arts members: aerial photographer Alex Ferrone and mixed media printmaker Mary Twomey. The show opens on Friday, May 3, 2013 and will be up for viewing until August 2, 2013. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Sunday, June 2 from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, where the public will have the opportunity to meet the artists. Local wines and artisan cheeses will be served. The public is invited to this free event.
North Fork-based aerial photographer, Alex Ferrone has been cultivating a personalized artistic approach to still life photography through the investigation of found objects and natural settings. Alex has worked with both lens and pinhole cameras to produce her work. Recipient of the 2012 Dan’s Papers Best of the Best North Fork Photographer and Artist Awards, Ferrone has had solo photography exhibitions on the North Fork and in Italy, and has shown in numerous group gallery and museum exhibits on Long Island, regionally, and also in Italy. Ferrone’s aerial landscapes made their solo debut in 2012; her fine art abstracts have been published in the Pinhole Resource’s Pinhole Journal; and her representational photography has been published in, and featured on the covers of, regional, national, and international publications including Power & Motoryacht Magazine, NYS Travel & Tourism Guide, LICVB Travel Guide, Newsday, and in numerous online magazines. Commissioned fine art photography works include producing photographic images for two ballets for Italy’s Florence Dance Company.
Mary Twomey's mixed media monotypes explore various themes and stages in life. The images are inspired by life experiences, myths and travel and are expressed through the use of color, texture, symbols, words and collage materials. She starts with a vague idea or concept and, as materials are manipulated, an idea takes shape and form. Ms. Twomey usually starts working in a monotype medium. This process consists of painting an image on a plastic plate then transferring that image to paper by running the plate through an etching press. This technique allows for experimentation and chance discovery – she’s never quite sure what the end result will be. The printed image may be further developed with drawing materials and paint to complete the idea. She also works with solarplate etchings, linoleum and wood block prints, silk aquatint, and mixed media. Ms. Twomey has been creating art for over 35 years and was an art educator in the public school system for 34 years. Her work has been exhibited in many juried shows and galleries throughout Long Island.
