Gross Schechter Day School in Pepper Pike will be getting a new head of school in July. Ari Yares, upper school principal at Schechter School of Long Island in Williston Park, N.Y., will be moving into his new position this summer to serve the families of the day school.
Rabbi Melinda Mersack, president of the board of directors, wrote to Schechter families to announce their decision. “Dr. Yares brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to education, child development, and Jewish learning with warmth and dynamism that is welcoming and engaging.”
The letter from April 15th also included words from Dr. Yares. “I am writing to share with you how thrilled I am to be joining Gross Schechter Day School as the next head of school. Since my earliest conversations about the possibility of coming to Cleveland, I have enjoyed hearing and seeing how passionate the community is about Schechter. My visits reinforced this image. Gross Schechter Day School is filled with proud, committed, and enthusiastic teachers, staff, parents, and children. It is a place that I am delighted to be calling home as a professional and as a day school parent.”
When lead administrator at Schechter School of Long Island, Dr. Yares oversaw both Jewish and general studies. He served at Krieger Schechter Day School in Baltimore as head of the middle school, and as a school psychologist at Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland.
His years of experience and learning are sure to be an asset to the Gross Schechter Day School and the student and parents that it serves. Dr. Yares will move to the Cleveland area with Ali, his wife, and their two daughters, Elianna and Avigavil. He will be recognized in a formal welcome reception that is planned for August.
