Governor Andrew Cuomo has just announced that the New York National Guard will be hosting a job fair for Guard and Reserve members and veterans. The event, called “Hire Our Heroes,” will be held on Wednesday, August 14th at the Farmingdale Armed Forces Reserve Center in Nassau. The job fair will open its doors at 9:00 a.m. and will run until 1:00 p.m. 90 businesses have signed up to appear at the job fair, and Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, has signed on as the event’s keynote speaker.
This event in Farmingdale is being co-sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and is just one of hundreds of such events that will be held throughout the 50 states. The unemployment rate reported by the Department of Labor last month for veterans was even higher than the national average, standing at 7.4 percent. This event will not only give job seekers a chance to interview with potential employers on-site, but also to take part in the Hiring our Heroes employment workshop. At least year’s event, 90 veterans were offered jobs, and across the country, Hire our Heroes events have resulted in over 100,000 Guard and Reserve members and veterans finding gainful employment.
