Nassau County and Industrial Development Agency (IDA) executives have signed a deal to keep PL Developments, a pharmaceutical company, at its present location in Westbury on Long Island. Under the deal, the company will retain its 569 local employees and also create 150 new jobs for locals in the area. It is estimated that the deal will bring $1.2 billion of revenue into Nassau. If the company had moved its headquarters to another state, its current employees would either have had to relocate with it or would have found themselves out of a job. Joseph Kearney, executive director of the Nassau IDA stated, “Without this project, hundreds of Nassau County residents would have faced the prospect of unemployment.”
PL Developments will be able to renovate its existing headquarters and also purchase and renovate another building located on Cantiague Rock Road, a project which will cost around $8.1 million. This project alone will create 25 new jobs in the field of construction. Additional jobs will also be created, though there have not been many details provided. County Executive Edward Mangano stated, “From creating and retaining more than 3,000 jobs, to generating over a billion dollars in economic activity for local economy, this agreement is a win-win for Nassau residents.”
