Third Thursdays Series at Brecknock Hall, Presented by East End Arts
September 20: Music & Art in Stroke Recovery
Featuring Grammy Winner and Pulitzer Prize Nominee, Joel Thome
(RIVERHEAD, NY, September 6, 2012) – East End Arts is pleased to announce September’s installment of the Third Thursdays Arts-in-Community Series at Brecknock Hall, located at One Brecknock Road, Greenport, to be held on Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 PM. “Music & Art in Stroke Recovery” will review the powerful effects that music and art can have as forms of therapy. Join Grammy winning musician and Pulitzer Prize nominee Joel Thome, a stroke survivor, for this fascinating, powerful and heartfelt presentation. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 1998, Joel lost the use of his left arm and was forced to undergo years of recovery. Using music as a resource for healing, he was able to resume composing and returned to the stage to perform his graphically notated mandala scores. Thome will screen portions of the film Inside the Perfect Circle: The Odyssey of Joel Thome which documents the remarkable journey of this world-traveled composer and conductor. This FREE event is open to the public.
