Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) announces the selection of Thomas E. Murray, Jr., Chairman Board of Trustees, for the United Hospital Fund Distinguished Trustee Award. Established in 1991, the award recognizes extraordinary service, leadership and a deep commitment to not-for-profit hospitals in the New York region. Murray will be honored at the Waldorf-Astoria at a special reception and awards luncheon on May 6, 2013.
Murray began serving on the Board of Trustees in 1999 and accepted the role of Chairman of the Board in February 2003. During his tenure, Murray has been actively involved in a hospital-wide renovation, including the expansion of acute beds in psychiatry and addiction, the rebuilding of the emergency department, and the expansion of the imaging department to accommodate the acquisition of a state-of-the-art MRI and mammography system. Most recently ELIH opened a new Ambulatory Care Pavilion and is currently engaged in a complete renovation and recapitalization of the laboratory.
“Tom continues to provide excellent leadership to ensure the best representation and advocacy between Hospital leadership and the communities served by ELIH. Mr. Murray was at the forefront of the establishment of the East End Health Alliance, in concert with the Berger Commission’s recommendations, that an alliance be formed with all three East End hospitals,” states Paul J. Connor III, President/CEO.
Formerly, President and CEO of Hamilton Federal Savings and Loan, Brooklyn, New York; he spent over thirty years in the banking industry, before retiring to the North Fork in 1992. He currently resides in Orient with his wife, Ursula.
