Nassau County Bus Transit Committee schedules public hearings on how the MTA’s fare increase on Metrocard may affect NICE bus customers
The Nassau County Bus Transit Committee has scheduled two public hearings on January 10 regarding the anticipated effect of the MTA’s (Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s) fare increase on NICE (Nassau Inter-County Express) bus.
Through an agreement between NICE and MTA, many NICE customers use MTA’s Metrocard to pay their fares for NICE and transfers to MTA buses and subways. Increases in Metrocard fares have been approved by the MTA and will go into effect on March 3, 2013 for MTA customers.
The Nassau County Bus Transit Committee will hold two public hearings on January 10, 2013 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Both hearings will be held in the Norman J. Levy Building/NICE Office Facility, First Floor Training Conference Room, 700 Commercial Avenue, Garden City.
A presentation will be made by NICE on the anticipated effect of the MTA’s fare changes on the NICE bus system. The Bus Transit Committee will then hear public comments after the presentation and before making its final determination.
For information on the MTA’s fare changes, see http://www.mta.info/mta/news/books/docs/121213FareChangesPackage.pdf
The public hearing location is accessible to people with mobility impairments. A Spanish interpreter and an interpreter for hearing-impaired people will be made available at a hearing upon two days advance request. All those wishing to comment at a hearing must register on the date and within the first hour of each hearing. Oral testimony is limited to 3 minutes for each speaker.
For more information, to request an interpreter or to submit comments in writing, send an email to NCBTC@nassaucountyny.gov or send a letter to Nassau County Bus Transit Committee, One West Street – Room 249, Mineola, NY 11501. All written comments must be received prior to February 1, 2013.
