Motionhouse Dance at Staller Center

January 15, 2013, Stony Brook, NY— Motionhouse, an acclaimed U.K. dance theatre-company that integrates movement and film, brings a visually stunning production to the U.S. for the first time with Scattered. Motionhouse performs at Staller Center for the Arts Main Stage at Stony Brook University on Saturday, February 16 at 8:00 pm. The seven dancers perform on a huge curved floor that disappears skywards on stage using projection technology, daring dancing, plus aerial harnesses and bungees to create an extraordinary world in which they move seamlessly in, on, and through images of water in all its forms.

Scattered is directed by Motionhouse’s visionary Artistic Director Kevin Finnan, combining Motionhouse’s trademark highly physical dance theatre and mesmerizing imagery in a unique interaction between film and live performance, created in collaboration with filmmakers Logela Multimedia from the Basque region of Spain.

Scattered explores humanity’s relationship with water and how it surrounds us in different forms throughout our lives. The seven dancers plunge into an ocean, wrestle a raging tide and slide on an avalanche to a frozen landscape of arctic beauty. The performers are at one moment on the stage, then sprinting up the upstage curved wall (think half pipe snowboard or skate ramp), immersing themselves in sensational images of cascading waterfalls, rainstorms and swimming pools.  They dive onto the stage through ice floes and frozen waters; they hurl themselves into tidal waves, they stride up projected escalators, they fling themselves onto projected deckchairs and they catch, throw, and hold each other in impossible embraces.
