We have not seen the last of ultra-cold temperatures on the east coast this winter, and more cold is just around the corner. Long Islanders will want to be cautious about commuting and traveling on Tuesday, January 21st. The National Weather service has issued a new Hazardous Weather Outlook as well as a Winter Storm Watch spanning the hours between noon on Tuesday until 6:00 a.m. on the following morning. Temperatures are expected to drop to 23 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow, with wind chill making it feel even colder. According to the bulletin from the NWS, temperatures will feel like they are below 0. This drop in temperature will be the result of more cold air making its way down from the Artic circle.
Along with cold temperatures and wind, Long Islanders can also expect more snow. About 2-4 inches are expected during the morning and afternoon, with an additional 4 inches possible throughout the day. Up to 9” of snow may fall on east Suffolk county. The weather service warns Long Islanders to bundle up to avoid frostbite, and to be careful driving to and from work. Low visibility during the worst of the storm will make driving even more hazardous.
