On February 24th, the parents of 22-year-old NYIT nursing student Jasmine V. Joseph from Syosset reported their daughter missing. Joseph had purportedly gone to the library to study, but never returned home. Since then Nassau County Police asked the public for help searching for the missing woman. During that interval, her parents made the surprising discovery that she had not been attending her classes for many months, despite the fact that they were paying for her to attend. Left with this mystery, many speculated that Joseph had run away from home, though her parents insisted that typical reasons for this behavior (a secret lover, for example) would not have applied in their family.
Today, the search for Joseph ended abruptly when the Homicide Squad discovered her body in her gray Nissan Altima. The family identified her remains at 1:15 this afternoon. Inspector Kenneth Lack reported that “She had inhaled a noxious substance” and supposedly committed suicide, but further details were not given. Her parents still are baffled at her death, stating that she was a happy girl. How did authorities miss a vehicle parked within a mile of her parents’ house for so long? And why did Joseph commit suicide? While Joseph’s body has been found, there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding her death.
