Garden City, NY - June 15th, 2015 - Thomas R. Slome, a member of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. and Chair of the firm's Bankruptcy Practice and Co-Chair of its Corporate Finance Practice, has been elected as the Board of Directors Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island(BBBSLI). A Board member since 2011, Slome previously served as Secretary and Treasurer to the organization and Chair of its Nominating Committee, which makes recommendations for new Board appointees.
Incorporated in 1977, BBBSLI has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and shine. BBBSLI makes meaningful, professionally supported matches between adult volunteers (‘Bigs’) and children (‘Littles’). These matches promote the positive growth and development of Long Island’s children through providing quality mentoring, education and support services.
Mr. Slome represents a wide variety of companies in all aspects of commercial law, including corporate reorganization, bankruptcy related litigation, creditors’ rights, and out of court debt restructuring. Mr. Slome has also served regularly as a bankruptcy court-appointed mediator and as an examiner, and is Chairman of The New York City Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization Committee. He is a Rockville Centre resident and received a B.A. in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook before earning his J.D. from Rutgers Law School.
