On April 27th the Metropolitan Philharmonic Chorus will present “Lincoln Poetry and Music by Long Islanders.” Although many people assume that this is based on the film, “Lincoln” that was released last year, it has actually been in the works for the last four years in conjunction with a traveling exhibition that is coming to LIU/Post.
The chorus will be exploring Abraham Lincoln’s own writings, as well as writings and stories of those who surrounded Lincoln throughout his life. Thirteen composers are part of this event, including many members of the Long Island Composers Alliance, and the concert will include poetry and music.
The exhibit at LIU/Post’s B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library, “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War,” is part of the impetus for the concert. It is a traveling exhibit that examines issues from slavery to secession to wartime civil liberties. All issues that Lincoln dealt with during his presidency.
It is a unique concert that will give a look into the life of Lincoln that most people do not get. Come and enjoy the concert by Metropolitan Philharmonic Chorus on April 27, 3PM at Hillwood Commons Lecture Hall, LIU/Post, 720 Northern Boulevard, Brookville.
