Mayor Allan M. Dorman Announces Groundbreaking of Village of Islandia Commons

Site of Former Delicatessen Purchased by Village Will Provide Office and Retail Space, House Suffolk Police and Village Public Safety Unit

Mayor Allan M. Dorman, Village of Islandia, has announced that a groundbreaking ceremony will take place on June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the building which formerly housed the In & Out Deli. The building is located at 16 South Bedford Avenue in Islandia (corner of Old Nichols Road and South Bedford Avenue).

Mayor Dorman will also announce that the building has been purchased by the village and will be renamed the Village of Islandia Commons. In order to generate revenue, the village will lease out office and retail space to incoming businesses. An artist’s rendition of what the building will look like will be available for public view at the groundbreaking.

The building will also house Suffolk County Police and the village’s Public Safety Unit in order to increase police presence in the area, since the building has high visibility along the main corridor, and to eliminate blight from the village which attracts criminal activity and drives down property values.

“Criminals should think twice before committing any crimes with the response time from our safety team and the police being even less than what it is now,” Mayor Dorman said. “This is just another step along with many that we have put into place to make our community safer for everyone.”
