When it comes to great Asian cuisine there is no shortage of new places to try along the Long Island proper. However, there are those that continue to catch your eye and draw you in for a great meal. One of those places is the Ruby Asian Fusion in Woodbury.
What may look like any other asian restaurant on Long Island is really hiding something very impressive under the cookie cutter facade. It is true that you can generally sense the decor of any Asian style restaurant before stepping into the building, but you can never judge the food from the sidewalk. This is where the Ruby Asian Fusion sets itself apart.
I wandered in there a few days ago and was pleasantly excited by the incredibly fast service and the warm, inviting smells of the food being prepared. Once my meal was in front of me, I knew that this would be a restaurant I would add to my "go back often" list.
I had a hard time choosing between the Shanghai short ribs with a spicy miso tangerine glaze and the Mango Chicken. I eventually chose the short ribs as I just had chicken the night before. And I am so glad I did. It was flavorful, beautifully plated over sweet potatoes, and incredibly tender.
With a hearty dessert, I said thank you to Malaysian-born chef Steven Ng, paid my bill, and walked out into the night air both satisfied and wondering when the next time I can be back in Woodbury will be.
