The annual Long Island Young Entrepreneur Challenge, a contest to help local entrepreneurs aged 17-22 procure funding for business start-ups, is now accepting new entries. The competition is open to Suffolk and Nassau residents and also to students who are attending accredited universities in Long Island, whether or not they are residents of Suffolk or Nassau. Residents and students will compete along two separate tracks until the final winner is selected. The prize for the winner includes $10,000 in venture capital for a new business, one-on-one mentoring from a Capital One Bank executive, and other support and resources.
The challenge is hosted by FrontStreet Facility Solutions. To apply, young people who are interested in starting a business must submit a business proposal which summarizes their plan in 1000 words or less. Judgment criteria include the product or service which the business will produce, the client’s demographic information, vision, uniqueness, and likelihood of success. 10 semi-finalists will be selected to compete at a “live pitch” competition on May 9th at the local headquarters of Capital One Bank. The full award with the venture capital will be given to a single winner, while two runners up will receive mentorship and other resources to assist them in starting up their business ventures.
