Long Island University (LIU), a Brooklyn based college which serves students throughout the four counties of Long Island, has just announced it will be providing new scholarships to disadvantaged students. This will make it one of only four colleges in the entire state to participate in the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) program. The program is not general in nature. It is aimed specifically at students who are studying speech pathology. This program was selected because there are not many minorities in the program, and also because speech pathology services are currently limited in certain communities where they are in high demand.
Both the Brooklyn and C.W. Post (Nassau County) campuses will be participating in the scholarship program, and students will have the chance to study at either campus. Those who apply will have the opportunity to receive up to $15,000 a year for the university’s graduate program in speech pathology. In order to be eligible, students will need to be attending LIU full time. There are also additional eligibility criteria. Those who are interested should either email sfs@liu.edu and inquire about the requirements, or visit the Office of Student Financial Services either online or in person. Applications will need to be filled out and submitted by February 28th in order for applicants to be considered.
