The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) has just announced that they will be offering $5,000 in reward money to any individual who reports an incident of dog fighting. The NSPCA will also be offering $1,000 to any person who reports another instance of animal abuse which leads to an arrest. According to the NSCPCA, there has been a rise in animal abuse cases within the county over the course of the year so far. Dog fighting is not only cruel to the animals forced to participate, but also creates behavioral problems in dogs, which endangers public health. All individuals who make reports that lead to arrests will be protected and kept anonymous in the proceedings.
The NSPCA is a volunteer organization which provides rescue and care for animals in need of assistance. They are currently the only animal protection group which is officially given the power to operate inside Nassau county. The NSPCA seeks to find permanent, happy, forever homes for animals that have been abandoned or abused. They are joined in offering the rewards this year by Nassau County Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves and Nassau Public Safety Committee Chairman Dennis Dunne.
