Huntington, NY (October 2, 2012) - Last week, Long Island Shields Police Association President Rich Petito honored Congressional Candidate Stephen Labate, alongside hero MTA Police Officer John Barnett. Both were given plaques recognizing them for their service.
In July, a deranged man stabbed Officer Barnett in the eye as he stood outside the Jamaica Long Island Railroad Station.. Barnett shot his assailant dead on the platform before he could cause harm to anyone else. As a result of the attack Officer Barnett has had to endure multiple surgeries to his wounded eye.
“It was such an honor to be recognized alongside Officer Barnett. The guts and intestinal fortitude of this Officer and his family is a sight to behold,” said Labate. “I deeply appreciate all the expressions of support I received from Long Island Shields, as well as the wonderful plaque they presented me. Above all, I appreciate being in a room with so many great people who understand the true meaning of selfless service”.
Stephen Labate is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and a Financial Planner. He is a candidate for United States Congress in New York’s 3rd Congressional District and lives in Suffolk with his wife, and two children.
