A Long Islander who allegedly scammed various elderly men out of thousands of dollars is appearing in court today. Lisa Ferkovich, 47, is accused of identity fraud and third degree larceny among other crimes. According to authorities, Ferkovich used at least four identities to steal money from a number of men in their 80s, including one victim in North Babylon who she took for half a million dollars. Her scams took place over a two year period. She has also been known as Lisa Sideris, Lisa Brown, and Ruby Mitchell.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota explained, “The current indictment alleges crimes committed by the defendant when she befriended an 83-year-old man in a North Babylon supermarket this past summer and gained his trust.” Investigators discovered that she managed to gain access to his mutual fund holdings as well as his bank accounts, and drained both. She also managed to rack up $35,000 in debts with his credit cards. She stole enough money from another man to purchase three automobiles, including a brand new Mercedes. The crime in North Babylon occurred when Ferkovich was free on bond, which is why she is currently being held without bail while she awaits her sentence.
