Long Island Postal Worker Threw Away Mail

Federal authorities tracking USPS worker Patrick Paskett in Long Island recently discovered that the mailman has been throwing away mail amounting to thousands of items.  The investigation opened after residents in Massapequa Park and Seaford complained that they were not receiving their packages or letters.  Special agent Steven DeMayo was assigned to the case.  On March 6^th, he tracked the postal worker and saw him throwing away mail in a trash bin in Massapequa Park. 

The postal worker has confessed to pitching mail into trash bins at least fifteen times between December and March.  Agents have so far successfully recovered 1,018 pieces of mail which he threw away between February 27^th and March 6^th.  Items thrown away before that date are still lost.  Paskett is still employed, but the USPS is no longer allowing him to deliver mail.  He is being tried on the criminal charge of mail destruction.  If convicted, he could face up to five years in jail for this felony.  Paskett has stated he is aware that throwing away mail was wrong.  “I really don’t want to talk about this with anyone,” he stated, talking to the New York Post.  “It happened.  I resigned.  I don’t work for them anymore.  It’s over.”
