Two major programs to prepare runners for the 2013 Long Island Marathon/Half Marathon/10 Kilometer Runs are getting started within the next few weeks, and anyone thinking about doing one of these events on the big day, May 5, 2013, is cordially invited to sign up.
The 3rd annual RunSmart Training Program kicks off at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration on Saturday, January 26th. It will be the first of a series of training sessions for runners of all levels of ability that will be held on one day every weekend for 14 weeks through April 27th. Each session will be based at a Nassau County Park under the direction of Head Coach Debbie Blair of the Greater Long Island Running Club, Bob Cook of The Runner’s Edge and a staff of coaches and trainers who are all set to make your racing experience a perfect one. The cost for the entire RunSmart Program is only $30.
The 2nd annual JONAS CHIROPRACTIC RunNassau Series of races leading up to May 5th will start with a 5 Kilometer race at the Old Bethpage Restoration Village on Saturday, February 9th, followed by a 4 Miler at Nickerson Beach at Lido Beach on Sunday, March 10th, a 5 Miler at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford on Saturday, March 23rd, and concluding with a 4 Miler at Eisenhower Park to jump start Marathon week on Saturday, April 27th. The entry fee for the entire four race series is $60 if you register before February 1st ($55 if registered for the Long Island Marathon, Half Marathon or 10K), and $65 if you register after February 1st. You may enter individual races in the Series (on-site day-of-race entry only) for $20 for each of the first three races and $25 for the finale Race Week Kick-Off Run and Party at Eisenhower Park. Snazzy commemorative shirts will be provided to every full Series entrant.
Both Programs are being conducted under the auspices of Nassau County and its Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums, with event management chores being handled by the Greater Long Island Running Club. Thanks go to Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Parks Commissioner Carnell Foskey and his staff, Debbie Blair and Bob Cook, The Runner’s Edge, Steve and Holly Jonas of Jonas Chiropractic, & Glen Wolther of All Round Foods
“These Programs are a great way for local runners to gear their training toward May 5th at a nominal cost, and we hope that everyone will take advantage of them,” noted Head Coach Debbie Blair.
