A Long Island man named Michael Faulkner has just been charged with animal cruelty for allowing his dog to starve, almost to death. The story, reported by Long Island PIX11 radio, describes how Faulkner locked his family dog Queenie up in a bedroom for weeks without any food or water, all in an attempt to strike out against his ex-wife after going through a bad divorce. The dog was saved by the ex-wife, who managed to find Queenie near death and take him to an animal hospital before it was too late, where he is currently in recovery.
There is no word yet on what will happen to Queenie, whether he will go home with the ex-wife or will be taken to an animal shelter. Every day, numerous stories of animal cruelty go unreported by news outlets, but there are nearly two dozen animal shelters and pet rescues throughout the two counties of Long Island. Many of the animals in these shelters ended up there as a result of cruelty like that of Michael Faulkner, and are there waiting to be saved by loving families who are looking for new pets to bring joy into their lives.
