GARDEN CITY, NY June 25, 2012- The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation (CCFA) welcomes home seven local heroes who crossed the finish line in hopes of finding a cure and raising awareness this weekend at the Kona Half Marathon in Kona, Hawaii this past weekend with Team Challenge.
For the 1.4 million Americans suffering from Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, the inconveniences of pain, daily medications, and hospital visits can greatly interfere with daily life. However, these seven residents from Long Island have turned their personal suffering into a fight for a cure.
The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is the leader in research, education and patient support for inflammatory bowel diseases. For the 1 in 200 Americans who suffer from these diseases, we strive to inspire, provide hope, and create a community that empowers patients and improves their quality of life.
Team Challenge is the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's latest endurance training program. This exciting new fundraising program trains participants to run or walk a half marathon while helping the Foundation raise funds to find a cure for Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn's Disease. In exchange for this commitment, the Foundation equips participants with everything they need to cross the finish line, including several months of training from professional coaches, transportation and lodging during race weekend and the opportunity to share a life-changing experience with a group of caring individuals.
To fund these mission-critical programs, we also produce nationwide events such as Take Steps Be Heard, our walk program, and Team Challenge, our endurance training and fundraising program. At all times, we strive to instill hope for cures and inspire actions that will make cures happen.
