After Labor Day it brings us to the picking season. There are apples, pumpkins and more to select from. It may seem like a quick transition, but that’s also because the harvest season appears to have started about two weeks early this year. While fall officially arrives on September 22, you can begin apple picking and others as early as this weekend at many of the Long Island farms.
This upcoming weekend, Hank’s Pumpkintown in Watermill officially opens for the fall season. Its attractions include apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, hay rides and lots more! It’ll be an enjoyable outing for the entire family. There’s also 5 acres of off street parking available, making it convenient to go by car.
Another option on Long Island includes the U-Pick Apple & Pumpkin Farm at The Milk Pail in Watermill. If you have children tagging along, they’ll appreciate its dwarfed apple trees. It offers twenty varieties of pickings through the month of September and October, including squash and gourds. Its pumpkins have also run in size from ½ lb to 150 lbs.
Fort Salonga Farm in Northport also has an offering of dwarfed apple trees. Its apple varieties include Jersey, Mac, Burgundy, Granny Smith, Fuji and others. Come this weekend, McIntosh apples are on its list as ripening.
Hopefully the weather holds up well this weekend to start the season off with good pickings from the variety of farms available on Long Island.
Come back each week for new features on entertainment, shopping and dining opportunities on Long Island.
