One of the greatest feelings is to be a part of something that is not only giving back to the community, but continues to do so even under adverse conditions. With the way that the economic picture is, especially for non-profit organizations, you would tend to believe that there would be less help available. However, Long Island Cares is busily on the move to help more and more people.
Food bank Long Island Cares is opening up a new office in Lindenhurst Village to serve communities hurt by superstorm Sandy. The Hauppauge-based Long Island Cares Inc. The Harry Chapin Food Bank will open the South Shore Services Center at 163-1 N. Wellwood Ave. The storefront site, which is due to open March 1, will serve as a community assistance center, offering emergency food, pet food, cleaning and other supplies.
The great realization of this is the reason why Long Island Cares is going to Lindenhurst in the first place. Paule Pachter, executive director of Long Island Cares, said in a statement that the new location was chosen “because of the way Lindenhurst pulled together immediately following Hurricane Sandy.”
That is a fantastic reason as far as I am concerned.
