LONG BEACH WATERFRONT WARRIORS FOURTH ANNUAL
FUNDRAISER HELD AT LOLA’S IN LONG BEACH;
EVENT SUPPORTS SOLDIERS VISIT TO LONG BEACH IN JULY
Long Beach, NY – May 9, 2012 - The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors, a volunteer organization that assists wounded, ill and injured soldiers, held a fundraiser at Lola’s Kitchen & Wine Bar on Monday, May 7. Proceeds from the event will bring soldiers and their families to Long Beach July 20 through 26.
Hundreds of people came out to support those who protect our freedom, while enjoying Lola’s open bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment. Several lucky folks won door prizes and the 50/50 raffle went to veteran, Ed Grant. The biggest prizes of the evening were awarded to Rick Garde, the winner of a custom-made WRV Short Board, and Gary Cameron who won a week of surf lessons. Both prizes were donated by
Skudin Surf, Long Beach’s premier surfing school.
LBWW co-chairs John McLaughlin and Gerry Snell were on hand to thank everyone for their support. Since 2009, the LBWW’s, with the donations and volunteerism from the local community, have hosted over 100 military families for a week in Long Beach. “The Long Beach community has always given a great welcome to the soldiers and their families, and we are grateful to all those who support the summer trips,” said Snell. “We also want to offer our thanks to Rich and Mark and the staff of Lola’s for their donations this evening.”
Proceeds from the event support the costs for
transportation,
accommodations and activities for the annual visit by military families from around the country. In addition, a portion of monies collected will be used for shipping holiday packages to soldiers overseas; transporting parents of wounded soldiers recuperating at
Water Reed National Military Medical Center; and for funding emergency medical help and other services to support the soldiers’ needs.
During the July visit, the LBWW’s in cooperation with the
City of Long Beach, hold a 5K “Race for the Soldiers” on the boardwalk followed by a Welcome Parade in the West End (both events take place Sunday, July 22.) During that week, boat rides, biking on the boardwalk, relaxing at the beach, swimming, surfing lessons, volleyball and attending the City’s free summer concert series are among events being planned.
The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization welcomes your support and invites all to join them in making this year’s visit even more memorable than last year. Become a volunteer, a liaison or a house host!
