LONG BEACH WATERFRONT WARRIORS TO HOLD FOURTH ANNUAL FUNDRAISER MAY 7, 2012 AT LOLA’S
IN LONG BEACH; EVENT SUPPORTS SOLDIERS VISIT TO LONG BEACH JULY 20-26
Long Beach, NY – April 11, 2012 - The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors, a volunteer organization that assists wounded, ill and injured soldiers, will hold a fundraiser at
Lola’s Kitchen & Wine Bar, 180 W. Broadway in Long Beach on Monday, May 7 with open bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment from 6pm to 9pm. Proceeds will be used to bring soldiers and their families to Long Beach July 20 through 26.
“This is the fourth year that Lola’s has generously donated their restaurant and its staff to assist us in our goals,” said LBWW co-chairman John McLaughlin. “They have supported us since the inception of the organization in 2009, and since then, over 100 families have enjoyed our
beaches and activities, dined at
local restaurants and have been warmly welcomed by those who live in our community.”
$50 at the door will provide guests with an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment provided by Brian Monaghan and DJ Big Kahuna. 50/50 raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win cash. Additionally, raffles are being sold NOW for a chance to win a WRV Short Board NY Model and a week of surf lessons courtesy of Skudin Surf, Long Beach’s premier surfing school. Winning tickets will be chosen at the Lola’s event. To purchase $25 surf raffles call Jerry at
516-375-5966. (Winners need not be present to win surf prizes.)
Proceeds from this event support the costs for
transportation,
accommodations and activities for the annual visit by military families from around the country. In addition, a portion of monies collected will be used for shipping holiday packages to soldiers overseas; transporting parents of wounded soldiers recuperating at Water Reed National Military Medical Center; and for funding emergency medical help and other services to support the soldiers’ needs.
Activities during the July visit will include a 5K Race for the Soldiers on the boardwalk and a Welcome Parade, both on Sunday, July 22. During the week, boat rides, biking on the boardwalk, relaxing at the beach, swimming, surfing lessons, volleyball and attending the City’s free summer concert series are among events being planned.
Co-chair Jerry Snell said the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors are committed to the young men and women who are sacrificing so much to keep our country safe. “We want them to know we appreciate what they are doing - and that we won’t forget them.” He added that volunteers who have assisted the families in the past find it a truly rewarding experience.
The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization welcomes your support and invites all to join them in making this year’s visit even more memorable than last year!
