We continue to make progress in our restoration efforts associated with this devastating storm, the likes of which we have never experienced on Long Island. Rest assured, we have been working around the clock to restore service and we continue to receive additional critical support resources with off-Island linemen and tree trimmers arriving each day.
As of 5 p.m. today, LIPA has restored power to more than 491,000 customers on Long Island who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Approximately 642,000 remain without power.
To date, LIPA has also restored 34 of the 50 substations that were out of power. This is significant because it is the substations that distribute power to local neighborhoods.

As we continue to restore power to our customers, we are focused on completing the restoration of power along main roads, restoring power to traffic signals and bringing power to schools and polling places, each of which are essential to restoring some normalcy to the lives of Long Islanders.
In the meantime, we realize that many of our customers are without heat. As temperatures drop, we urge you to please use caution. If you are cold, consider finding shelter elsewhere. To find a shelter near you, text SHELTER and your zip code to #43362 (4FEMA). Or, you can reach the American Red Cross at 1.877.733.2767.
We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available. We thank you for your patience in these difficult circumstances and express our sincere best wishes to those of our customers who have experienced terrible losses from Hurricane Sandy.
