New York Senator Kristen Gillibrand is taking some of the Long Island's best wines to Washington, D.C. as a part of the 11th annual New York Farm Day. The wine tasting is set to spotlight some of the Long Island's top wineries and the diverse agriculture that can be found within New York, and especially eastern New York.
Featured within the New York Farm Day observance are several local wineries including JamesPort Vineyards, Lieb Cellars, and Martha Clara Vineyards. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 at the Russell Senate Office Building’s Kennedy Caucus Room. These wineries are just a part of a larger group of farms being represented from the Long Island area. Long Island has a rich and diverse agricultural heritage that instills great pride in those who work the land and produce some of the countries top produce and agricultural products.
Steve Bate, who is the Long Island Wine Council president, and other local food and wine experts will go to the Capital to help promote New York agriculture. Another representative involved with the event says that this is a great way to represent the people and the produce of New York farms and their diversity.
Among the wine there will be cheeses, maple syrup, and seafood, such as oysters, that is harvested along Long Island shores. Sen. Gillibrand is carrying on the tradition set forth by Senators Clinton and D'Amato.
