The site has already had over 130,000 visitors to date in 2012 (source: Google Analytics) – an increase of over ten thousand visitors for all of 2011. With the ever-important weekend before Halloween, and of course the holiday itself still on the horizon, these numbers are predicted to have another significant jump before the end of the year.
Established in 2004, LIHauntedHouses.com was created when Long Island Media founder and owner, Ralph Cristello, realized that Long Island was lacking a comprehensive resource for seasonal haunted attractions – one of Long Island’s biggest draws during the Fall season. Since its launch, the site has expanded to include virtually every haunted attraction on Long Island – all with thorough information. Each haunted attraction on LIHauntedHouses.com has its own listing that includes a brief description, calendar with dates & times, photos, an interactive map, pricing information, and haunt ratings dating back to 2008. There are also numerous ways to search for haunts on LIHauntedHouses.com – haunt seekers can browse by area, to find a haunt close to them, or browse by event type to find a haunt that will best suit their needs.
The rating system that is in place allows visitors to leave a comment, and a 1-5 pumpkin rating for haunts that they have visited – giving new visitors some local insight into the different haunted attractions. These reviews are designed to help Long Islanders get the most out of Halloween, and determine the right attraction to visit – the ratings often include information about whether or not an attraction is “kid friendly” or more geared toward adults.
Due to the site’s ever-increasing popularity, LIHauntedHouses.com also released a weekly newsletter this October, highlighting many of the top-rated haunts featured on the site - something that has proven to be quite popular with visitors. This newsletter has served as quick reminder every Thursday in October of which haunts are open for the upcoming weekend, and even details which haunts offer discounts through LIHauntedHouses.com.
