When the storm, give the name of Nemo, was forecast to hit Long Island over the weekend, perhaps people were expecting a cartoon type of storm. The type that simply blows over and we all have a laugh about it. However, the truth of the storm is not found in the name, but in the incredible amount of snow that was dumped across Long Island in a very wild couple of days. With amounts of up to 30 inches of snow reported in some areas it is easy to see why some Long Island businesses are still closed.
The good news is that the Long Island Expressway is free and clear and ready to all of your travellers to get to where you need to go at highway speeds. The bad news is that if you are traveling to Suffolk County, then you may want to change your plans. The fairly smooth sailing on the eastern Long Island Expressway turned into an entirely different scene once drivers got off the highway. Roads are still snow clogged and pretty much impassable.
Added to that are the great numbers of cars that have had to be abandoned by their owners during the storm as they got stuck. There is no question the storm took a toll on Long Island, and the businesses are going to feel a bit of the pain within the next few days. Let's hope that this can be cleaned up quickly so people can get back to their jobs and businesses can continue to operate.
