When it comes to being a young business leader there are a lot of hurdles one has to jump over in order to gain respect and recognition. One prestigious award that can help you gain that respect and recognition is the Long Island Business News’ 40 Under 40, a prestigious award that recognizes young business and community leaders. This year the award is being handed out to another group of 40 under 40 leaders, businesspeople, and visionaries in their field. One of those who is being recognized is Dana Battaglia, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.
Battaglia is a licensed speech-language pathologist and teacher of the speech and hearing handicapped in New York State for the past 12 years. Battaglia has dedicated her career to the advancement of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She created a new course at the graduate level at Adelphi in an effort to educate future speech-language pathologists about the disorder prior to graduation and subsequent clinical practice.
This is a great honor for Battaglia and hopefully a way to get out the message about her course, but also the work that is being done for people with Autism and education. There is no doubt that the 40 under 40 award will help her with this. Battaglia is also a consultant at the nonprofit organization Genesis/Eden II Programs, where she has worked since 1995, educating individuals with ASD. She has conducted presentations on autism and speech-language topics at the local, state and national levels.
The awards gala will be held on January 24, 2013, from 6:00 to 10 p.m. at The Crest Hollow Country Club, 8325 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY.
