Even nurses are finding it difficult to find a job after graduation and Legislator Sarah Anker met with students from the Molloy College of Nursing to discuss this. A meeting was held to help open discussion about the different career opportunities that are available to newly graduated nurses. In addition, the topic of how government may be able to assist students in finding work after graduation was discussed.
Anker said, “As Chair of the County’s Education Committee, I will continue to find ways for our youth to find well-paying jobs on Long Island. Our college students are graduating and facing the hardship of college loans during a time of high unemployment. Keeping them on Long Island is vital to their success and also the success of our local economy.”
Many college students are forced to leave Long Island to find jobs and this is having a significant affect upon the economy. Legislator Anker proposed legislation for the JOBS Opportunity Board and it was approved by the General Legislature. In cooperation with the Suffolk County Workforce, the JOBS Opportunity Board will look at how Suffolk County can aid college students in finding jobs through different programs, including resume-building, internships, and mentorships.
