LBILA PRESENTS A “GOLD COAST MANSIONS” TOUR JUNE 6;
Visit Two Former Private Estates of the “Great Gatsby” Era
May 8, 2012 -
Long Beach, NY - On Wednesday, June 6, 2012 the
Long Beach Island Landmarks Association will host a tour of two Gold Coast mansions. The tour leaves from the Long Beach Recreation Center at 8:30am and will transport guests to the North Shore of Long Island, the inspiration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, “The Great Gatsby.”
Tickets are $65 for LBILA members - $75 for non-members (with membership) and $70 for non-members. For reservations call Alexandra at
516-431-3775 or Kathy at
516-431-8656.
The first stop on the tour is the former du Pont estate, built in 1918 for businessman, inventor and philanthropist Alfred I. du Pont. The neoclassical/Georgian mansion, renamed de Seversky Mansion in honor of Russian aviator Alexander P. de Servesky, is located on 300 acres in
Old Westbury on the site of the
New York Institute of Technology campus. Guests will tour the mansion and visit the garden room, where they will be treated to refreshments, fruits and baked goods.
Following the visit to de Servesky Estate, the tour will stop at Oyster Bay for lunch “on your own.” Guests may choose to bring their own lunch or dine at one of the many restaurants the town has to offer.
From there, we will visit the Coe Hall estate in Upper Brookville. Coe Hall was constructed in the Elizabethan style in 1918 as a weekend home for financier William Robertson Coe and his wife Mai. Here we will have an extensive tour the mansion and walk among the spectacular gardens and greenhouses. A remarkable exhibit of fashions from 1918-1960 will be held in the grand ballroom featuring period costumes, hats, shoes and furniture.
Spend a day with us as we enjoy these beautiful structures and gardens. Reserve your seat now by calling Alexandra at
516-431-3775 or Kathy at
516-431-8656. Tickets are $65 for LBILA members - $75 for non-members (with membership) - $70 for non-members. Buses leave at 8:30am from the Long Beach Recreation Center.
