The Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce its Juried Fine Art Exhibition Reflections to be held March 23—April 26, 2013 at the Mills Pond House Gallery, 660 Route 25A, St. James, NY. The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, March 23, 2-4 pm to meet the participating artists and view their work.
Exhibition juror James Henry Rubin’s exhibit call for entries noted that Reflection be either a physical or a psychological phenomenon. Together they evoke the interplay between perception and conception. He selected 42 artists for the exhibition, which will include 68 artworks in a wide variety of media including watercolor, oil, charcoal, bronze, archival prints, mixed media sculpture and more. James Henry Rubin is an art historian specializing in the history, theory and criticism of nineteenth-century European art, especially that of France. He has taught at Harvard University, Boston University and Princeton University and is currently Professor of Art History at Stony Brook. He is the author of ten books, has served on the International Committee of the College Art Association and represented the CAA at the United Nations and is Vice President of the Société Paul Cézanne, based in Aix-en-Provence, France. He is a dual French-U.S. citizen, and lives in New York City and in Mittelbergheim, Alsace.
