Bethpage, New York – July 3, 2012 – Bethpage Federal Credit Union, New York State’s largest credit union, is pleased to present the Islip Arts Council’s “Salute to the Armed Forces of the USA” featuring the Long Island Philharmonic, taking place on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 8 PM at Heckscher State Park in East Islip. Free to the public, the event will pay homage to the country’s returning war heroes and those currently still serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.
The event, which will turn Heckscher State Park in East Islip into a giant Concert Hall, featuring the Long Island Philharmonic, will include a spectacular fireworks display by Grucci immediately following the concert. Through its supporters, the concert will help raise funds for the United Way of Long Island’s Operation Live United Military Family Assistance Project, which provides Long Island veterans the necessary assistance they need to live, work and raise their families on Long Island.
Conducted by David Wiley, the evening’s program will include many patriotic compositions, and will also include a tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII with a rendition of “Straighten Up and Fly Right” arranged by Reynard Burns, composer and Bayport resident, and a Flyover by the Bayport Aerodrome Society Flyers. “Once again, Bethpage Federal Credit Union has stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball out of the park,“ said Lynda A. Moran, Executive Director, Islip Arts Council. “The Annual Free Concert in the Park is one of Long Island's most beloved and anticipated events, and now an occasion for honoring our brave servicemen and women. The Islip Arts Council could not have done this for more than 33 years without the selfless assistance of sponsors like Bethpage. As we all salute the troops, let's not forget to salute our sponsors.”
