Everyone has had someone in their life who has stuggled, or is struggling, with heart disease. In the same train of thought we have all lost loved ones in our families to heart disease and heart attacks. This Sunday, September 23rd, the American Heart Association is going to be sponsoring a "Heart Walk" to help raise money and spread awareness of heart disease and heart defects.
The Heart Walk will start at 10 AM on the 23rd and will be at Jones Beach in Watagh. Registration will begin at 8:30 this Sunday morning at Parking Field 5. In addition to spreading the word about heart disease, the walk is also to be a celebration of the Long Island community’s effort to fight the number one and number four killers of Americans; that would be heart attack and stroke respectively.
Two local celebrities are slated to attend the event. One is WCBS-TV's Jennifer McLogan who will be the emcee for the walk as well as one of the walkers. The 2012 Long Island Heart Walk Red Cap Ambassador is 13-year old Cecilia Funk, who was born with a heart defect, will also be on hand for the event.
There is also a website dedicated to the Long Island Heart Walk that keeps a running tally of up to the minute donations. As of this writing there was still $120,000 left to reach the goal of $540,000. If you are interested in walking, or donating, you can do so at the Heart Walk website.
