New York, NY- In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, local New Yorker and animal lover, Dahna Bender, seeks to use her wonderful gift as a vocalist to help mend lives devastated by the storm. Ms. Bender will release her newly recorded holiday EP, Giving of the Heart, in conjunction with a holiday benefit that will support and raise awareness for the American Humane Association’s Red Star Animal Emergency Services and their work for families and animals affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Upon gaining firsthand exposure to the emotional and physical damage caused by a natural disaster, Ms. Bender, an avid dog lover, made it her mission to make sure that the needs of the animals affected in the communities around her did not go unmet.
Through research, she found the American Humane Association, an organization filled with pet lovers like herself. She was truly inspired by the incredible efforts put forth by the AHA in response to the devastation caused by the storm. The AHA’s Red Star Animal Emergency Services has an exceptional record dating back to 1916 for helping in disaster stricken areas. Equipped with at least 100 volunteers on standby at all times, an 82 ft. “Rescue Rig,” and extensive pet supplies, the AHA and its services are effectively positioned to lend a hand to communities in need.
Knowing that there is strength in numbers, Ms. Bender reached out to partner with the AHA as well as Airgo Music, the music company that produced her EP, to organize two live events to help raise awareness about and funding for the AHA. Said Ms. Bender, “I thank God for being blessed to be able to have the resources and support to accomplish this goal for the greater good. I have believed from its inception that a completely selfless project can only be successful as its purpose is pure. And the Universe will deliver and guide without fail to accomplish all. As we tread through this process it’s amazing to see it in action and all the wonderful people that are magnetized to us to help and to who these people I am forever grateful.”
Ms. Bender will host the first event, a holiday benefit, on December 19th at the Canal Room in New York City. Ms Bender will be joined on stage by Latin music star, Frankie Negro; Karmine Alers and cast members from the Broadway cast of Rent; American Idol Season 10's Karen Rodriguez and more. Tickets to the event, which is supported by notable celebrities with a passion for animal rights, will include a copy of Ms. Bender’s EP and access to performances by talented musicians. In honor of the work done by such an incredible organization, Ms. Bender will be donating the proceeds from her new CD to the AHA. Tickets to the event are $50.00 and can be purchased at _______.
