Huntington Arts Council and HUFSD Announce New Partnership for This Year's Summer Arts Enrichment Program

HUNTINGTON ARTS COUNCIL AND HUFSD ANNOUNCE NEW PARTNERSHIP FOR THIS YEAR'S SUMMER ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Huntington, NY (June 1, 2012) – The Huntington Arts Council, Inc. is pleased to announce a new partnership with the HUFSD (Huntington Union Free School District) in the administration of the 2012 Summer Arts Enrichment Program which serves over 200 youth each summer. 

"The Summer Arts Enrichment Program has been an integral part of our students' developmental arts education for over 30 years, and we are excited to expand on our partnership with HUFSD and provide our management expertise to this quality summer experience.” said Diana J. Cherryholmes, Huntington Arts Council's Executive Director. 

 "The Huntington School District and community are thrilled that the Huntington Arts Council will be managing the Summer Arts Enrichment Program.  Without their help, the program -- which serves over 200 students -- would have been cancelled," explained Joan Fretz, Director of Arts, HUFSD. "Having the Arts Council as our new partner will surely lead to more exciting learning experiences for all.”

The Summer Arts Enrichment program is a half-day arts experience held at Huntington High School and provides a head start for beginning orchestra and band students, unique opportunities for young students to work in our high school visual arts facilities, and wonderful career internships for high school students, who assist our professional educators. It is coordinated by Nicole Lynch with assistance from Joan Fretz. Courses are open to all students entering grades 4-9. Founded in 1963, the Huntington Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization that enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community. The Council’s programs reach over one million Long Island residents, and the Journey Program is a multi-cultural arts-in-education program that is a result of how the schools, artists and the Council cooperate to identify the most enriching artist, teacher and student educational experience for each school. The Journey Program reaches over 36,000 students.

The Huntington Arts Council has been designated a "Primary Institution" by the New York State Council on the Arts, a title meaning "vital to the cultural life of New York State.” The Council is the official arts coordinating agency for the Town of Huntington, and serves as the primary regranting agency onLong Island for the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), in addition to its services to over 600 member cultural organizations and individual artist members.
